In honor of the 50th anniversary of the blues soul classic, Feelin’ Alright, written by Dave Mason and released first in 1968 by Traffic, we released our new version in April, 2018.
Like many people, I was inspired by Joe Cocker and his renowned version of Feelin’ Alright. I mean who doesn’t love that killer piano hook? It’s awesome! One day I started experimenting with the melody in the verses, came up with a few new chords, and thought hmmmm, well this is different, it’s kinda fun! Then we started playing Feelin’ Alright live. After the rave response at shows decided to bring the band into the studio….and our 2018 version was born!
After we finished recording I got curious to hear Joe’s version again – it had been a few years since I listened to his. To my surprise, I then discovered dozens of amazing versions of Feelin’ Alright – by fabulous artists! The Jackson 5, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Grand Funk Railroad, The Ohio Players, Mongo Santamaria, Isaac Hayes, Lou Rawls, The Fifth Dimension, The Black Crowes, Paul Weller….and the list goes on and on.
I was so inspired by all these different versions of Feelin’ Alright I made a Spotify playlist. Enjoy the evolution of this classic tune. Thank you Dave Mason for giving us such a great song to sing!
